Welcome to Dragon Money

Dragon Money is a personal finance blog designed to get you out of debt, save money, and invest in your future. My name is Ken Welch and I started this blog because I was getting a lot of similar questions during my day job at a credit union. Writing it all out here allows me to reach more people and make financial literacy more accessible to everyday people. I’m openly gay and proud to help the LGBTQIA+ community live their best financial lives.

This blog is meant to act as a guide for you on your journey to meeting your wildest financial goals. I’ll be here every step of the way to support you in your mission. It won’t be easy, because changing behaviors is always harder than coasting. I believe that you have what it takes to succeed. After all, you are in the right place so that is a good start.

When I was younger, I did not have a lot of money. Think single mom with five kids in Chicago. Think food stamps and those families’ children you donate gifts to around Christmas time. Now, I know what it means to be hungry and to hunger for something more. Over time I made it a goal to teach myself everything I did not learn growing up about personal finance. I pride myself in helping others repair their credit and improve their personal finances. I know better than anyone that psychology and emotions play a pivotal role in improving your situation.

So that is why this blog starts from zero and is written in plain language. If you have zero dollars in your emergency fund, then I’ll help you meet your goal of saving your first $1000. We’ll go there together. Wherever you are right now, there will be something for you to grow your wealth.

You may have noticed a theme here around dragons. Our dragon mascot Cyn (sometimes your fursona becomes your website mascot) appears throughout the blog to help you find your own wings and your own pile of treasure. When you find yourself in a comfortable financial situation, I’ll ask that you consider donating to the blog through Patreon. You can subscribe for as little as $3 a month for some extra perks and support from me.
